India Wins ISSA Award 2025 for Social Security Excellence

India honoured with ISSA Award 2025 for outstanding social security achievements.

India has received a great honour in 2025. The International Social Security Association (ISSA) has given India the Outstanding Achievement Award in Social Security. This award is one of the most respected global recognitions. It shows that India has made big progress in protecting its people with strong welfare programs.

What is the ISSA Award?

The ISSA is a worldwide organisation. It helps countries improve social protection. Every three years, ISSA gives awards to countries that do very good work. The Outstanding Achievement Award is the top honour. Winning it means a country has created safe, fair, and effective systems for its people.

India has now joined the list of countries that have strong and trusted social security programs.

Why India Got the Award

India has taken many steps in the last ten years. Some of the important ones are:

  1. Bank Accounts for All
    • The Jan Dhan Yojana gave millions of poor families their first bank account.
    • This made it easy to send money directly to people.
  2. Insurance at Low Cost
    • Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Suraksha Bima Yojana gave life and accident insurance at very low premiums.
  3. Pension Security
    • The Atal Pension Yojana and PM Shram Yogi Maandhan offered pensions for small traders, workers, and farmers.
  4. Health Protection
    • Ayushman Bharat – Jan Arogya Yojana gave ₹5 lakh free health cover per family each year.
    • More than 50 crore people are part of this scheme.
  5. Support During COVID-19
    • Free food, cash transfers, and health cover were given during the pandemic.
    • The Garib Kalyan Package became one of the largest support programs in the world.
  6. Digital Delivery
    • Aadhaar and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) made payments quick and safe.
    • This reduced corruption and ensured help reached the right people.

ISSA’s Words

The ISSA praised India for making a big, inclusive system that protects millions of people. It also praised the use of technology that made the system fast and transparent.

Government Reaction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the award is a proud moment for every Indian. He said it shows the world that India cares for its people and that growth is for everyone.

The Labour Ministry also said the award is recognition of India’s hard work to support workers, farmers, and the poor.

How It Helps People

The award is not just about policies. It is about real benefits for families:

  • A farmer now gets income support directly in his account.
  • A widow receives her pension on time.
  • A poor family can get treatment in a hospital without paying.
  • A small worker can feel safe with life insurance and pension cover.

These stories show how social security gives hope, safety, and dignity.

Why It Matters Globally

India’s win is important for other countries too. Many nations struggle with poverty and big populations. India has shown that with simple schemes and digital tools, even large countries can build strong welfare systems.

Now India is seen as a role model for many developing countries.

Challenges for the Future

Even with this award, India has more work to do:

  • Some workers are still not covered.
  • Rural people need more awareness about schemes.
  • Costs of pensions and healthcare will rise in the future.
  • New kinds of jobs, like gig workers, also need protection.

Experts say India must continue to improve, invest, and expand coverage.
