PM Modi Inaugurates ₹48,520 Crore Development Projects in Bihar:

Patna, May 30, 2025 – In a significant move to bolster Bihar’s infrastructure and economic landscape, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for development projects totaling ₹48,520 crore. These initiatives span various sectors, including transportation, healthcare, energy, and urban development, aiming to transform the state’s socio-economic fabric.

Key Highlights of the Inauguration

1. Aviation Infrastructure Boost

  • New Terminal at Jayprakash Narayan International Airport, Patna: Constructed at a cost of ₹1,200 crore, the terminal spans 65,150 square meters and can handle up to 3,000 passengers during peak hours, with an annual capacity of one crore passengers.
  • Foundation Stone for Bihta Airport Civil Enclave: Estimated at ₹1,410 crore, this project aims to handle 50 lakh passengers annually until 2047, enhancing air connectivity in the region.

2. Railway Development

  • Hardinge Park Terminal: A ₹95 crore project to ease congestion at Patna Junction, featuring five platforms for MEMU trains and future plans for mail and express trains.
  • Third Rail Line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj: Aimed at facilitating coal transportation to the Ankora-Nabinagar power plant.
  • Advanced Automatic Signalling System: Implemented over a 25-km stretch between Sarasam and Anugrah Narayan Road to streamline passenger and freight movement.

3. Healthcare Advancements

  • AIIMS Darbhanga: With an investment of ₹1,260 crore, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Darbhanga will include a super-specialty hospital, AYUSH block, medical and nursing colleges, and residential facilities, providing tertiary healthcare to Bihar and neighboring regions.

4. Road and Highway Projects

  • National Highway 119A (Patna-Arrah-Sasaram Corridor): This under-construction 4-lane highway will enhance connectivity between Patna and Rohtas district, running along the Sone river.
  • Danapur-Bihta Elevated Road: A 21 km four-lane elevated road, claimed to be the longest in East India, connecting Patna to Bihta Airport, with a 600-meter tunnel facilitating vehicle entry to the proposed civil enclave at Bihta Air Force Station.

5. Energy Sector Initiatives

  • Buxar Thermal Power Plant: A coal-based thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,320 MW, constructed at an estimated cost of ₹10,500 crore, expected to commence operations in March 2025.

6. Urban Development and Water Supply

  • Ganga Water Supply Scheme: Aimed at supplying Ganga water to towns like Gaya, Bodhgaya, and Rajgir through a 190.90 km pipeline, enhancing water availability in these regions.
  • Loknayak Ganga Path (Ganga Expressway): A 20.5 km expressway along the Ganges river, dubbed Patna’s Marine Drive, improving traffic flow and connectivity in the city.

7. Economic and Commercial Projects

  • Unity Mall in Patna: With an estimated cost exceeding ₹200 crore, the mall will showcase products from various states and districts, promoting local manufacturing and handicrafts, and supporting initiatives like ‘One District One Product’.

Political Significance

The inauguration of these projects comes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, with Prime Minister Modi addressing a mega rally in Bikramganj, focusing on 22 assembly seats. The event underscores the central government’s commitment to Bihar’s development and the strategic importance of the state in national politics.
