United Nations: Pakistan has called for urgent progress in the Gaza peace process, warning that delays could worsen the humanitarian crisis and undermine diplomatic momentum.

Speaking at the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Ambassador of Pakistan, emphasized that the current stalemate—particularly regarding Phase II of the Gaza Peace Plan—must be resolved without further delay.

“Any delay risks eroding hard-won momentum and deepening human suffering,” he said, urging the international community to act decisively.

Pakistan Pushes for Diplomatic Engagement

Ahmad stated that Pakistan remains actively involved in promoting diplomatic solutions and peaceful engagement to resolve the crisis.

He highlighted recent talks hosted in Islamabad between the United States and Iran as an example of Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating dialogue in the region.

“Pakistan remains actively engaged in advancing such diplomatic pathways and advocating for a peaceful resolution of this crisis,” he added.

Focus on Palestine as Root Cause

The Pakistani envoy reiterated that the core issue behind instability in the Middle East remains unresolved.

According to Ahmad, the situation stems from the continued occupation of Arab lands and the unresolved question of Palestine.

He stressed that a two-State solution remains the only viable path toward achieving long-term peace, dismissing other explanations for regional tensions.

“Not expansionist ambitions or illegal wars, but the end of occupation and realization of a Palestinian state is essential for lasting peace,” he stated.

Pakistan, he affirmed, will continue to support this objective on international platforms.

Editorial: A Case of Diplomatic Irony?

While Pakistan’s call for peace and stability in the Middle East reflects a familiar diplomatic stance, critics have pointed out a striking contradiction closer to home.

For a country that frequently finds itself in tense relations with multiple neighbors—including India, Afghanistan, and Iran—the role of a global peace advocate raises eyebrows.

Observers often note that managing peaceful borders is typically considered the first test of diplomatic credibility. Yet, recurring border tensions, cross-border incidents, and strained bilateral ties have remained persistent challenges for Pakistan.

This has led to a degree of skepticism in international circles. The irony, critics argue, lies in lecturing the world on conflict resolution at forums like the United Nations while struggling to establish sustained peace in its own neighborhood.

In diplomatic language, such contradictions are rarely acknowledged outright—but they are certainly not overlooked.

Growing Debate at the UN

Pakistan’s remarks come amid increasing debate within the UN over how to revive stalled peace efforts in Gaza. While countries broadly agree on the need for a resolution, differences remain over approach, priorities, and accountability.

As global powers continue to push competing narratives, the path to a lasting solution appears increasingly complex.

Speaking at the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, Ambassador of the Russia, stated that the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict—linked to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025)—has failed to move forward as expected.

Gaza Stabilization Efforts Delayed

Nebenzia highlighted that the proposed International Stabilization Force for Gaza has still not been deployed, despite being a critical component of the peace roadmap. The plan, reportedly initiated in Washington, D.C., aimed to restore stability and pave the way for long-term political solutions.

“The implementation has effectively stalled,” Nebenzia said, warning that delays could worsen the humanitarian and security situation in Gaza.

Criticism of ‘New Gaza’ Development Projects

Russia also criticized what it described as superficial attempts to resolve the crisis through economic initiatives rather than political solutions.

According to Nebenzia, instead of focusing on the creation of an independent Palestinian State, the international community is pursuing large-scale commercial initiatives.

He referred to these as “New Gaza” projects, accusing stakeholders of trying to “buy the goodwill of the Palestinians” through infrastructure and development plans without addressing core political issues.

Concerns Over Israel’s Actions in Lebanon and Syria

The Russian envoy expanded his criticism to include Israel’s military actions in neighboring regions, particularly Lebanon and Syria.

He warned that continued escalation could have serious consequences, especially in Syria.

“One must not mistake Damascus’s political wisdom and strategic restraint for weakness. The cup of patience could very well overflow,” Nebenzia cautioned.

UN Peacekeepers’ Safety at Risk

Another major concern raised was the safety of UN personnel. Russia accused Israel of failing to respect the security of peacekeeping forces operating in conflict zones.

Nebenzia called for a swift and transparent investigation into all incidents involving threats to United Nations Peacekeepers, stressing that their safety must remain a priority.

Growing Diplomatic Tensions

The statement underscores rising geopolitical tensions at the UN, with disagreements intensifying over how to resolve the Gaza crisis. Russia’s remarks reflect broader concerns that diplomatic efforts are losing momentum while conflict risks continue to rise across the region.

As the situation evolves, global powers remain divided on the path forward—between political negotiations, military strategies, and economic reconstruction plans.

Introduction

Narendra Modi is one of the most influential political leaders in modern India. Serving as the 14th Prime Minister of India since 2014, Modi has reshaped India’s political landscape with his strong leadership, economic reforms, and global diplomacy. His journey from humble beginnings to the highest political office in the country is widely discussed and debated.

Early Life and Background

Narendra Damodardas Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat, into a modest family. His father ran a tea stall, and young Modi often helped him—an experience that later became a defining part of his public narrative.

From an early age, Modi showed interest in spirituality, discipline, and national service. He was associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which played a key role in shaping his ideological foundation and leadership skills.

Entry into Politics

Modi’s formal political journey began when he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Known for his organizational skills and strategic thinking, he quickly rose through the ranks.

His major political breakthrough came in 2001 when he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat, a position he held for over a decade (2001–2014). During this period, Gujarat witnessed rapid industrial growth and infrastructural development, though his tenure also faced criticism, particularly regarding the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Prime Minister of India

In 2014, Narendra Modi led the BJP to a historic victory in the general elections, becoming the Prime Minister of India. He was re-elected in 2019 with an even larger mandate, reflecting strong public support.

As Prime Minister, Modi has launched several flagship initiatives:

Make in India – Boosting manufacturing and investment

Digital India – Promoting digital infrastructure and services

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan – Cleanliness and sanitation campaign

Startup India – Encouraging entrepreneurship

His government has also focused on financial inclusion, infrastructure development, and welfare schemes for the underprivileged.

Economic and Policy Reforms

Modi’s tenure has been marked by bold economic decisions, including:

Implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST)

Demonetization in 2016 aimed at curbing black money

Push for self-reliance through the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative

While these reforms have had mixed reactions, they have significantly influenced India’s economic framework.

Foreign Policy and Global Image

Narendra Modi has actively strengthened India’s global presence. He has built strong relationships with world leaders and positioned India as a key player in international politics.

His diplomatic efforts include participation in global forums like the United Nations and strengthening ties with countries such as the United States, Japan, and Australia.

Leadership Style and Public Image

Modi is known for his charismatic communication style, strong decision-making, and direct connection with citizens through platforms like social media and radio programs such as Mann Ki Baat.

His leadership is often described as decisive and visionary, though critics argue that some policies have been controversial.

Awards and Recognition

Narendra Modi has received numerous international awards and honors for his leadership and global influence, further cementing his position as a prominent global statesman.

Conclusion

Narendra Modi’s journey from a small-town boy to the Prime Minister of the world’s largest democracy is remarkable. His leadership continues to shape India’s political, economic, and global trajectory. Whether praised or criticized, Modi remains a central figure in contemporary Indian politics.

In a significant political development, the proposed Women’s Reservation Bill suffered a major setback after it failed to secure passage in the Lok Sabha, prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the nation and express regret over the outcome.

Bill Falls Short of Required Majority

The proposed legislation — the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 — aimed to provide 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies. However, it failed to achieve the mandatory two-thirds majority required for constitutional amendments.

Out of the total votes cast, 298 MPs supported the bill while 230 opposed it, falling short of the required threshold for passage.

The failure also led to the government dropping two related bills, including those linked to delimitation and expansion of Lok Sabha seats, as they were considered interconnected.

PM Modi’s Address to the Nation

Addressing the nation hours after the setback, Prime Minister Modi expressed disappointment and issued an apology to women across the country.

He said that the “dreams of women empowerment have been hurt” despite the government’s efforts and assured that his administration remains committed to ensuring adequate representation for women in politics.

The Prime Minister also sharply criticized opposition parties, accusing them of blocking the bill for political reasons and “missing a historic opportunity” to empower women.

Opposition Hits Back

Opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress, countered the government’s claims, alleging that the bill’s design — particularly its linkage with delimitation — created confusion and mistrust among parties.

They argued that while they support women’s reservation in principle, the government’s approach made consensus difficult.

Why the Bill Failed

Several key factors contributed to the bill’s failure:

Requirement of a two-thirds majority for constitutional amendments

Political divisions over delimitation and seat redistribution

Lack of sufficient cross-party support

Concerns raised by opposition over implementation strategy

The bill’s defeat marks a rare legislative setback for the current government and has reignited debate over how and when women’s reservation should be implemented in India.

What Happens Next?

Despite the setback, the government has indicated it will explore alternative ways to bring the legislation back.

PM Modi reaffirmed his commitment, stating that efforts to empower women politically will continue and obstacles will be addressed moving forward.

Introduction & Series Stakes

The five-match Test series between England and India is set to conclude with a blockbuster decider at Kennington Oval in London, running from July 31 to August 4, 2025. England currently hold a 2–1 lead and are aiming to clinch their first home series win against India since 2018. Meanwhile, India must produce a victory to level the series at 2–2 — guaranteeing a dramatic finale featuring high stakes for both sides.https://www.hotstar.com/in/sports

Schedule & Timings

Match Duration: July 31–August 4, 2025

Local Start Time (London): ~11:00 AM

India Standard Time (IST): ~3:30 PM daily

English conditions typically involve morning sweeps of dew and overcast skies, impacting play and possibly offering swing to pacers in early hours.

Venue & Pitch Overview

The Oval, located in Kennington, south London, is known for a balanced Test wicket—offering early seam movement under moisture and generally progressing to assist spinners as the match wears on.

Recent reports indicate the pitch has looked green and lively after overnight rain, reinforcing a seamer-friendly surface early in the match. As the ball softens and the surface dries, spin may come into play, though seamers are expected to dominate Day 1 and into Day 2.

Weather & External Conditions

Rain risk: Significant chance of intermittent showers or overcast conditions persisting through the first couple of days, which may lead to stoppages or play interruptions.

Humidity: Moderate to high humidity will favor seam bowling early on.

Influence on strategy: Early moisture and overhead cloud cover tilted favorably for tallying seam deliveries. Both teams must adapt swiftly if rain washes out play, especially given India’s need for an outright win.

Toss & First-Innings Strategy

England won the toss on Day 1 and opted to bowl first, citing the green pitch and favourable early swing conditions as decisive.

Stand-in captain Ollie Pope—filling in for injured Ben Stokes—called it a “no‑brainer”, underscoring England’s approach to chase control from the outset and stay on the front foot. India, having lost the toss again (their 15th consecutive), must face immediate pressure with the ball in hand.

England Team News

Captain Ben Stokes is ruled out due to a grade‑three shoulder muscle tear, and his recovery is estimated at 6–10 weeks. Stokes remains out of bowling action altogether for this Test series finale.

Ollie Pope steps in as permanent stand-in captain—his first Test as skipper, and he promptly won the toss and a review early in the match.

England have made a tactical overhaul in their pace battery, bringing in three fresh seamers: Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, and Josh Tongue, all of whom lack extended red-ball exposure. Veteran Chris Woakes now leads the seam attack. They field no specialist spinner in the XI, a rarity at The Oval, with seamers prioritized due to the conditions.

Team XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope (c), Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell, Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue.

India Team News

Rishabh Pant, India’s wicketkeeper‑batter, is ruled out due to a foot injury, with Dhruv Jurel stepping in behind the stumps.

The availability of Jasprit Bumrah remains uncertain. Although not initially slated to play more than three Tests, captain Shubman Gill left the door open for Bumrah’s inclusion depending on fitness and match strategy. A final decision was pending just before play began.

Should Bumrah sit out, viable replacements include Akash Deep or debutant Arshdeep Singh. India also possess spin‑allround options in Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja.

India XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Shubman Gill (c), Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.

Ollie Pope: The stand-in skipper combines leadership with middle-order reliability. Expect him to anchor runs and lead the bowling unit’s plans.

Chris Woakes: With experience leading the inexperienced seamers, Woakes becomes an essential figure in wicket-taking and guiding strategy.

Josh Tongue: His ability to angle the ball into right-handers was identified as useful in historical Oval games.

Jacob Bethell: The debutant in spin/utility role brings variety, though seamers are favored early.

India

Shubman Gill (C): A prolific captain-batsman, Gill has scored centuries in three consecutive Tests this tour. A win on his leadership debut at The Oval would cement his maturity as a top-level skipper.

Mohammed Siraj & Prasidh Krishna: Their express pace can exploit Oval’s early seam movement if utilised sharply.

Ravindra Jadeja & Washington Sundar: Serve as spin options and lower-order batting depth, vital if seamers struggle or surface turns later on.

Pitch vs Team Combinations

England’s bowler-heavy side reflects confidence in seam bowling on a green pitch. The absence of frontline spin indicates reliance on early wickets before the surface softens.

India, with pace‑utility options and experienced allrounders, may adopt either:

A short‑ball aggressive opening to test England early; or

A batting first approach if they manage to bat, stabilizing through Gill and company, then leveraging Jadeja/Sundar later.

With limited toss luck (lost 15 in a row), India will likely prioritize a solid first‑innings batting display if given the ball later.

Early rain interruptions likely; pace may dominate before conditions dry out.

England front-foot advantage harnessed through a strong opening spell by their seam trio led by Woakes and Tongue.

Day 2–3

This fifth Test stands as a decisive battlefield: spin-led strategy meets seamer-heavy reshuffles; experience confronts debutants; weather looms as a tactical variable. England’s gamble on pace without their usual allround anchor in Stokes reflects confidence in seam-friendly conditions.
