Devendra Fadnavis Highlights Maharashtra's Investment Milestones and Vision for Growth at Davos

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the state’s record-breaking achievement of securing investment deals worth ₹15.7 lakh crore. He addressed a range of topics, including Maharashtra’s leadership in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), the importance of healthy competition among states, and recent concerns about law and order in Mumbai.

Fadnavis emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “cooperative and competitive federalism” as a driving force for India’s growth. “The PM’s ‘Team India’ dream comprises both cooperative and competitive federalism. A healthy competition between the states in Davos will enable the country to grow,” he stated. He underscored that for India to achieve its goal of becoming the world’s third-largest economy, every state must contribute to the growth.

Maharashtra remains a frontrunner in FDI, with 98% of the investments secured at Davos coming as foreign investments. Explaining the significance of the forum, Fadnavis said, “Davos is a meeting point. Many companies have foreign partners, and while it’s not always feasible for all of them to visit India, they can convene here to finalize deals. This summit fosters a spirit of cooperation and investment.”

Fadnavis also elaborated on Maharashtra’s higher success rate in converting memorandums of understanding (MoUs) into actual investments. “Other states achieve only about 35% of the investments they secure, while Maharashtra converts at least 65-70%, and in some cases, even up to 85%.”

On the issue of law and order in Mumbai, Fadnavis defended the city’s safety record and emphasized that every citizen, from ordinary residents to Bollywood stars, holds equal importance. He cited a recent incident involving an attack on actor Saif Ali Khan by an illegal immigrant, assuring that authorities are intensifying their efforts to tackle illegal immigration.

Regarding the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, Fadnavis confirmed that the Mahayuti alliance would contest together. He also reiterated his commitment to transparent governance, job creation, infrastructure development, and making Maharashtra drought-free.

When asked about his political future and being considered a potential BJP prime ministerial candidate, Fadnavis humbly dismissed the notion, stating, “I don’t see myself as a PM face, but I would love to be a representative of the next line of BJP leaders.”
