The TCS World 10K Bengaluru has long been a stage where the world’s elite distance runners converge, and the 2025 edition promises to uphold this tradition. Among the most anticipated participants are top athletes from Kenya and Uganda, nations renowned for their dominance in long-distance running. Their participation not only elevates the competition but also offers spectators a chance to witness world-class athleticism firsthand.
Kenyan Contingent: A Legacy of Excellence
Kenya’s reputation in distance running is unparalleled, and the athletes slated to compete in Bengaluru are a testament to this legacy. Leading the pack is Emmaculate Anyango, the world’s second-fastest woman over 10K, who clocked an impressive 28:57 in Valencia, finishing just behind her compatriot Agnes Ngetich’s world record of 28:46. Anyango’s recent performances have solidified her status as a formidable competitor on the global stage.
Joining Anyango is Peter Mwaniki Aila, who boasts a personal best of 26:59, achieved during a third-place finish in Valencia earlier this year. This remarkable time places him among an elite group of athletes who have completed the 10K in under 27 minutes. Mwaniki’s participation is highly anticipated, given his track record and potential to challenge existing course records.
The Kenyan lineup is further bolstered by Bravin Kipkogei Kiptoo, the 2019 African Junior Champion over 10,000m, with a personal best of 27:02 from Madrid last year. Bravin Kiprop, who clocked an impressive 27:16 in Castellon, Spain, this February, adds depth to the team. Additionally, Hillary Chepkwony, last year’s third-place finisher in Bengaluru, and Patrick Mosin, the runner-up in Castellon the previous year, are expected to provide the necessary impetus to push for fast times.
Ugandan Representation: Emerging Powerhouses
While Kenya has long been in the spotlight, Uganda’s emergence in the distance running arena is noteworthy. Athletes like Stephen Kissa have showcased Uganda’s growing prowess. Kissa, known for his tactical acumen and endurance, has previously competed against some of the best, making his participation in Bengaluru a thrilling prospect.
Course Records and Expectations
The current course records in Bengaluru stand at 27:38 for men, set by Nicholas Kimeli, and 30:35 for women, set by Irene Cheptai, both achieved in 2022. Given the caliber of athletes participating this year, there’s palpable excitement about the potential for these records to be challenged or even surpassed. The course’s design, combined with Bengaluru’s climatic conditions in April, provides an optimal setting for fast times.
Significance of the TCS World 10K Bengaluru
As a World Athletics Gold Label Road Race, the TCS World 10K Bengaluru holds significant prestige. The event offers a total prize purse of USD 210,000, with the winners in the men’s and women’s categories each taking home USD 26,000.
