Pak Security Forces Kill 8 Terrorists in Infiltration Bid in North Waziristan

PESHAWAR, April 7:
Pakistan’s security forces successfully thwarted a major infiltration attempt by terrorists along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the restive North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing eight and injuring four others, according to a statement from the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The incident took place during the intervening night of April 5 and 6 in the Hassan Khel area of North Waziristan. According to the ISPR, the movement of the armed group, identified as khwarij (a term often used to refer to militants), was detected by security forces as they attempted to cross the border.

“A swift response was initiated, effectively engaging the terrorists,” the ISPR said, adding that the infiltration attempt was decisively repelled. The injured terrorists were forced to retreat, and a sanitization operation is underway to eliminate any remaining threats in the area.

This incident comes amid a rising wave of militant activity in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the breakdown of a ceasefire agreement with the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November 2022.

Security analysts have warned that the porous border between Pakistan and Afghanistan continues to be exploited by terror groups for cross-border attacks and movement. The Pakistan Army remains on high alert, intensifying surveillance and counter-terrorism operations in border regions.

The ISPR reiterated its commitment to ensuring the country’s safety, stating, “The security forces of Pakistan remain determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and safeguard every inch of the motherland.”
